They were a really sweet young couple and their love was wholesome until it wasn’t. I really liked following Melanie and Harry. Also, because of certain plot reasons, Harry just really struggles to understand what the hell is going on, so things are explained several times in a few different ways.

I feel like this one was a bit simpler than the first book only because the differences between the seasonal magic and whatever Roger and Dodger are, are many.

But when the ruling Winter and Summer die, Mel and Harry are in for a big surprise. Harry is a local boy, one that Melanie has loved from childhood, and Harry loves Melanie just as much. Her mother died while giving birth, along with Melanie’s twin sister. Melanie was created by alchemist parents.

It’s set in the same world but follows new characters. Seasonal Fears is the sequel to Middlegame (which I read and loved last year). However I found the ending itself, the actual choosing of the reincarnations, weak.Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Different continents have different ways with seasons and if you are going to have human reincarnations it makes sense to deal with that. That there are many possibilities, and different ones on different continents I like. Reincarnations of the seasons is a rather interesting take that has always drawn many towards it like elemental magic. They didn’t quite feel like the characters I got to know in the previous book. I just didn’t care for either of them and none of the side characters were very interesting.Įven the entry of our Middlegame characters felt stereotypical. They just kept feeling like these teenage stereotypes of supposed true love. Neither Melanie or Harry grabbed me in anyway. And in this case I was not grabbed by our two characters. Possible reincarnations of Summer and Winter and a scheming father.Ī lot stands and falls with me when it comes to characters. Life seems fairly simple outside of that but when both go down at the football field, a whole new world opens up for them. Melanie is seriously ill however, a heart condition. The book introduces us Melanie and Harry, childhood sweet hearts. I’m not sure I can say the same for Seasonal Fears. I can’t say I was a lover of Middlegame but I certainly enjoyed it for what it was. Seasonal Fears was a long awaited sequel for many Middlegame lovers.
